Former Blue Jay Pompey Signs for 2022

Guelph Royals Manager Dino Roumel could not contain his secret nor his excitement any longer.

Appearing live on the Magic 106.1 FM Morning Show Thursday morning, Roumel announced that former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey has signed to play for the Royals.

"Dalton was intrigued by the intercounty. After numerous conversations, Dalton said on Sunday. I’d love to come back home and play for the Guelph Royals if there’s a spot for me this summer”. Roumel recounted during the interview.

Pompey was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft out of high school in Mississauga and was just the 6th Ontario Born Player to wear the Blue Jays uniform in club history.

Prior to the 2015 season, Major League Baseball named Pompey as the number two prospect in the Blue Jays' organization, the 7th best outfield prospect in baseball, and the 43rd overall prospect on their annual top 100 list.

He appeared in 34 games for the Blue Jays in the 2015 regular season, he batted .223 with two home runs, six RBI, and five stolen bases. Pompey was on the Blue Jays postseason roster, appearing primarily as a pinch-runner. In five postseason games, he recorded a single in his lone at-bat with four stolen bases.

"We are very excited to welcome Dalton, to the ball club and into our community," said Royals President and Owner Shawn Fuller. " It's not often that someone with his experience at the Major League level and who's a Canadian becomes available. We're eager to add him into the mix and work on building the next chapter in Royals History together.”

The Royals open their 2022 Intercounty Baseball League season on Saturday, May 21st at home versus the Toronto Maple Leafs at David E Hastings Stadium first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm. Season Tickets, as well as tickets to the opener, are on sale now via the Royals Eventbrite page
