GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce the re-signing of 2021 IBL MVP Garrett Takamatsu.

Takamatsu, 26, will enter his second season in the Royal City when Guelph kicks off their season in May.

In his first season with the team, the infielder batted .287 with four home runs before batting .298 with two home runs throughout the Royals playoff run.

The 2018 IBL Rookie of the Year, who will enter his sixth IBL season in the spring, had his best season come in 2021 when he batted .419 with 12 home runs while with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Takamatsu said he is excited to see build off his first season with the Royals.

"I'm excited to see what we can do this season with our core back and the additions to our bullpen and lineup. It'll be a fun summer."

Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said he is pumped to have Takamatsu back.

"We are so excited to have Garrett back. Not only is he one of the best hitters in the league, but he is someone our staff leans on to bridge the communication between the front office and our players. He plays such an integral part of what we are building."
