Kush Continues Brilliance In Win Over Maple Leafs

TORONTO - Four in a row.

The Guelph Royals led from start-to-finish at Christie Pits on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-1 to improve to 21-12 on the season.

With the loss, the Leafs fall to 13-23.

Guelph starter Jacob Kush was dominant on the mound, throwing seven shutout innings while striking out seven Toronto batters.

The IBL's ERA leader allowed just three hits and five walks.

Royals third baseman Brando Leroux went two-for-five at the plate.

Toronto starter Angel Castro was his rowdy self as he took the loss.

The former big-leaguer allowed one earned run on seven hits and one walk in six innings.

BIGGEST PLAY OF THE GAME: Up 2-0 in the top of the first, Royals designated hitter Drew Durst hit an opposite field RBI single to left field to extend Guelph's lead to 3-0.

NICEST PLAY OF THE GAME: With two runners on for the Leafs in the bottom half of the sixth inning, Royals shortstop Conner Morro nicely started a 6-4-3 double play off of Maple Leafs right fielder Marcus Knecht. 

BY THE NUMBERS...

0. Zero errors by the Royals on Sunday, compared to four for the Leafs.

1.50. Kush lowered his IBL-best ERA to 1.50 in his Christie Pits debut.

4. Four wins in a row for the Royals, who are now just 3.5 games out of first-place in the IBL.

9. All nine Royals in the lineup reached base at least once on Sunday.
