Leafs' Rally Late To Down Royals

TORONTO – A three-run eighth propelled the Toronto Maple Leafs to an 8-6 win over the Guelph Royals Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Ryan Santos went 4-for-4 with two runs, Dan Marra and Justin Marra each had two hits, two RBI and a run, Grant Tamane singled twice and scored twice while driving in a run, Marcus Knecht went 2-for-4 with a run, and Zac Orchard added two hits and an RBI.

Andrew Simonetti (1-0) threw a scoreless eighth for the win. He struck out one and walked one. Zach Sloan earned his first save after giving up a run on a hit in the ninth. He issued a walk and a strikeout.

Alberto Tirado started and went five innings, surrendering three runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Toronto moved to 7-10.

For Guelph (7-11), Josh Garton went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a pair of runs. Sean Reilly opened the scoring with his seventh home run – a two-run blast in the first inning – while Brendan Keys and Darius Barlas drove in the other runs.

Brett Lawson (3-2) allowed three runs on four hits in the eighth. He took over from Yunior Yambatis, who gave up five runs (one earned) on 10 hits over seven innings. Yambatis walked three and struck out three.
