Lefty Montgomery Returns to Royals Bullpen

GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce today the re-signing of left-handed reliever Rhys Montgomery.

Montgomery, 21, returns for his second season with the Royals in 2025.

In 2024, the 6'5", 240 lbs lefty had a solid debut season for Guelph, recording an ERA of 4.63 while striking out 20 batters in 33 innings pitched.

The former Toronto Maple Leaf is currently pitching for Connors State University in his freshman season, alongside Guelph teammates Marc Nellis and David Stanley.

Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said he is excited to see Montgomery take a step in 2025.

"I have long been a fan of Rhys, going back to his 2022 season with Toronto. He's young, has a professional frame, has shown he can start and come out of the bullpen, and has gotten a lot of quality outs in this league. Him being a left-hander is only a bonus. I think the sky is the limit for Rhys, so I look forward to seeing what this summer has in store for him."

The Royals are also excited to announce that we have signed reliever Connor King for the 2025 season.

King, a Guelph University alum, pitched for the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers in 2024 and will provide depth to the Royals bullpen.
