Mother Nature Strikes Out Royals Opener

by Neil Srivastava

Mother Nature decided the Guelph Royals need to wait another week for their home opener.

Heavy winds and rain pelted David E. Hastings Stadium at 12:20 pm  just minutes prior to the Royals' scheduled Intercounty Baseball League regular-season opener.

Fans and players alike thankfully moved to drier confines  before the wind gusted several branches from the stadium's 100 year plus old maple trees crashing down into the right field

No injuries were reported and the game was called by the umpires due to unplayable field conditions.

A Makeup date versus the Maple Leafs is to be determined. Royals staff are working on a ticket exchange for fans who purchased their tickets to Saturday's scheduled game.  Details will be posted when available

The Royals will open their 2022 season on the road in Hamilton  Sunday against the Cardinals at 2:05 pm
