Royals Add Another Big Leaguer to Pitching Staff

by Ryan Eakin

GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce today that we have signed starting pitcher Sandy Baez for the 2023 season.

Baez, 29, joins the Royals after a decorated professional career that saw him appear in ten Major League Baseball games throughout the 2018 and 2019 seasons for the Detroit Tigers.

Prior to that, the native of Juan Barron spent six seasons in the Tigers minor league system, where he most frequently pitched in Double-A.

After his time in the Tigers organization, the hard-throwing righty spent time in the Atlantic League in 2022 with the Long Island Ducks, recording a respectable ERA of 3.15 in 39 appearances.

Royals field manager Dino Roumel said he is ecstatic to have Baez in the rotation this season.

"We are very excited to have Sandy Baez in a Guelph Royals jersey. He is another quality, experienced arm in our rotation. He is a physical, hard-throwing pitcher who has Major League experience."
