Royals Blast The Baycats 14-3

BARRIE -  There was a time not so long ago when a trip to Barrie for a Sunday night game was a nightmare for the Guelph Royals.

Often it would see them field a shorthanded crew, and likely one or two pitchers being called upon to fill a spot in the lineup card followed by a one-sided loss at the hands of the Baycats.

Golly, it's a welcome change to see those days be left behind following another convincing victory Sunday night at Vintage Throne Stadium going into the books as a 14-3 victory for the Royals.

Claudio Custodio (6-0) started for the Royals and did his part on the mound and at the plate in the DH spot in the order.  He pitched 7 complete innings allowing a run on three hits and added another nine strikeouts which upped his league-leading strikeout total to a staggering 132.    He also finished 2 for 5 at the plate with a pair of singles.

Malik Collymore continued his hot streak at the plate by going  4 for 5 at the plate with 4 RBIs as he extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Jeff MacLeod added three hits including a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to go with a single and a double and 4 RBI on the night.

J.D. Williams and Ethan Hammond each chipped in with three hits and Hammond added an RBI.

Juan Benitez (4-4) took the loss for the Baycats.  He pitched five innings allowing five runs (all earned) on nine hits, allowing a walk and he struck out nine.

The Royals (17-9) will return home Tuesday night to face the Hamilton Cardinals with first pitch at Hastings Stadium set for 7:30 pm
