Royals Bring Back Mercado After Stint in Ottawa
GUELPH - The Guelph Royals Baseball Club is excited to announce today the signing of right-handed pitcher Nelson Mercado.
Mercado, 23, rejoins the Royals for his fifth season with the team after starting the 2026 season with the Ottawa Titans in the Frontier League.
In his first stint in professional baseball, Mercado, who struck out 35 batters in 26.1 innings with the Royals last season, struck out 9 batters in 6.1 innings for the Titans
Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said getting Mercado back is huge for the Royals bullpen.
"We are very excited to get Nelson back. We all wish he could have stayed in Ottawa, but we are excited to add a pitcher with Nelson's ceiling to our bullpen. It's also huge that he is someone that can make every game."
