For the Guelph Royals, the 2022 season has been about redemption and returning the franchise back to its glory days where they packed Hastings Stadium night after night.

Wednesday night, the franchise set a new win record with its 28th win in a 16-5 victory over the Brantford Red Sox at Arnold Anderson stadium.

Not so long ago the Royals finished 4-32 and 1-16 the following year before pulling the plug on the 2017 season at the midpoint.

"This season was about making a statement and a commitment to our fan base telling them the Guelph Royals are back," said Royals President and Owner Shawn Fuller.

One of the Royals' biggest acquisitions this off-season was signing former Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey. Wednesday night he let his bat do all the talking.

Pompey’s two-run blast opened the scoring in the first inning. He blasted a solo shot in the 5th and finished the night with three hits, four RBI, and four runs scored.

Noah Roberts capped the scoring with a two-run shot in the top of the ninth.

Ashton Patterson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two Claudio Custodio and Malik Collymore both had a pair of hits and drove in a run, Jeff MacLeod picked up an RBI, Darius Barlas had two hits and a run, Owen Ellis went 3-for-5 with a run and Brian Sewell drove in two on three hits while also scoring three times.

Every Royal in the starting lineup collected at least one hit as they combined for 19 on the night.

Brandon Deans (4-2) picked up the win on the mound. He went five innings and allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts.

The Royals moved to 28-11 and up into second in the standings, 1.5 games back of the London Majors with three games remaining.

Friday night the Royals will battle the Majors in London with a shot at closing the gap between first and second. The game time is 7:35 pm
