Royals Sign RHP Jeifry Nunez at Deadline

by Neil Srivastava

The Guelph Royals signed former Texas Rangers farmhand Jeifry Nunez   Monday night prior to the Intercounty Baseball League's signing deadline at midnight.

The right-handed pitcher from Bonao, Dominican Republic was released by the Rangers in 2020 when Major League Baseball cut their farm systems due to the pandemic.

Nunez was making his way through the Rangers system and was promoted to their Double A Frisco Rough Riders at the time of his release.

He compiled a 15-8 record in the minors with an ERA of 3.44.  He made 25 starts, pitching 191.1 innings, and struck out 183 batters.

The Royals (20-10) travel to Welland on Thursday to face the first-place Jackfish (22-7) for the second time in the past seven days.

The Royals host the Kitchener Panthers Saturday night at Hastings Stadium. Tickets are available online or at the gate on game day.
