Royals Sign Veteran Left-Hander Signaling Their Official Return to the IBL
The long-awaited return to play of the Guelph Royals in the Intercounty Baseball League edged a little closer today with the signing of former Major League pitcher and Olympic Bronze Medalist Dario Alvarez.
Alvarez a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic has signed with the Royals for their 2022 campaign.
The left-hander's MLB record was 6-1 with six holds, and a 5.06 ERA (27 ER/48.0 IP) in 56 major league relief outings between the Mets (2014-15), Braves (2016), and Rangers (2016-17). He tallied 61 strikeouts over 48.0 innings pitched, averaging 11.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.
Alvarez pitched most recently for the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna of the Mexican League.
Alvarez won a bronze medal as a member of the Dominican Republic team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Royals will make their return to action after sitting out the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions. Catch the action on Saturday, May 21st when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs at 1 pm at David E. Hastings Stadium.
Season tickets and single-game tickets are scheduled to go on sale on Tuesday March 1st as part of the Royals Return To The IBL kick-off event.
