Royals Win Streak Ends with Loss to Leafs

TORONTO -  The Winning Streak is over.

Jose Vinicio's one-out single in the bottom of the ninth drove home Greg Carrington with the winning run as the Toronto Maple Leafs downed the Guelph Royals 4-3 at Dominico Field Sunday afternoon.

The win by the Leafs ended the Royals' seven-game win streak and tossed aside a  franchise record-setting 18 strikeout performance by Royals ace Claudio Custodio.

Custodio, who recorded a no-decision pitched eight complete innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits and walking four batters.

Brandon Deans took the loss as he started the ninth inning allowing a walk, the winning run, and a single over a third of an inning.

The Royals rallied back twice in the contest to tie the game at 1-1 and 3-3 in the eighth and even had the bases loaded in the frame with one out but Adam Marra came in and snuffed out the Royals' chances and closed out the inning.

Chris Nagorski pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the victory.

The Royals (13-8) will dust themselves off and look to re-enter the win column Tuesday night at Hastings Stadium when they host the Barrie Baycats (13-9) at 7:30 pm
