Royals win streak Jacked by Welland
WELLAND - The Royals three-game win streak was halted Thursday night as the Welland Jackfish doubled up on the Royals 16-8.
The Royals built up 4-0 and 6-4 leads in the early stages of the ball game but were unable to hold either lead for long.
Joel Espinal (1-1) started for Royals and battled with his control for 3.2 innings. He was tagged for eight runs (six earned) on eight hits over walked three and fanned out four.
Junior call-up Kyle Kush led the Royals in the loss going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs to lead the Royals. Jeff MacLeod had three hits, including a solo home run, scoring three times, while Sean Reilly added a double and drove in two, and Angel Villalona singled twice and had an RBI.
Former Royals' import Matt Schmidt broke out of an 0-11 slump to power the Jackfish's offense going 4 for 5 with three RBIs. The Illinois native also scored three times.
The Royals (5-5) travel to London tonight to face the Majors(2-8) at Labatt Park. Game Time is 7:30 pm
